Although I like many of their songs, I love “Hey Fanny” the most. There’s something very endearing about this short piece. Could be its simplicity, the solo voice and guitar, and the perfect voice to match… could be.

I’m not an expert on Americana/Bluegrass music. I just know what I like when I hear it. If you get a chance to catch them in concert, you’ll hear this humble band meld together in sweet harmony.

They have a show coming up at Cafe Du Nord on April 29th. Check them out!

I can’t deny the fact that since I’m a new mother, it has affected everything in my life. Yup, no joke. (Sarcasm at it’s worst.) So instead of trying to separate this life and motherhood away from each other, it seems that I will have to merge the two peacefully. Not fully… more like a venn diagram. Maybe if I can pull off this merge, I will get something accomplished here as well.

Although I’ve been a mother for only eight months and busy being pregnant for nine months before that, this amount of time has gone by super fast for me. But, it has also felt like it has sucked out so much more time from me. More time away from this. From writing, listening, and writing, and listening. While colleagues are passing me by, I get down on myself for not keeping up. Then I have to slap myself in the face and say, “Wake up woman! You’ll only get this time with your son once in your life!” This is true and this is right. I can’t be a neglectful mom. So, how will this merge happen? How can I make it successful? Guess we’ll just have to find out.

In the meantime, I’ve introduced son to The Bad Plus yesterday. We listened to “Iron Man” while I danced around him. Then attempted to play the piano part for him. He was not amused. He wanted to play himself. I think I’ve got a new student on my hands.

I survived childbirth and now have a two month old son. He is awesome, the best, the most perfect little human being in my life. He also loves music, so I know he’s mine. And, he also loves to eat, so I definitely know he’s mine. Needless to say, I’ve been a bit preoccupied this past year and this will probably continue for another year… and beyond? Preoccupation is probably a good thing as long as the preoccupied thing is a good thing.

My last post was about crazy people who pee all over the bathroom seats and who do not wash their hands properly after using the public toilet. Since then, some things have happened, but now I’m just waiting around for the new arrival of the Smo team.
- Can’t believe that MJ is gone.
- Met with a doula to help us during the big event.
- Found an awesome massage therapist that actually helped with my back problems.
- Had a lot of people over one weekend and was thoroughly exhausted, but had fun.
- Got my 3rd graders ready for an assembly concert. They performed so well and I was so happy!
- Used over 90 syringes since April.
- Taught my last lessons a couple weeks ago and I’m starting to get bored.

Now I really have nothing to do since I’m not working. Just waiting, waiting, waiting….. so weird to not work or go to school. Ha, maybe I should’ve been working on a piece since I’ve had this time. But my mind has been so out of wack lately that I’m a little afraid of what would come out. Well, only a couple more days until life becomes more exciting.

I am clumsy these days. My belly is getting huge and I am off balance. I, like most women, have had my share of pregnancy woes, but I’ve dealt and still dealing. And let me tell ya, I’ve dealt good. But this, this, this I can’t get over.

Since I have to go to the restroom all the time now, I see the toilet more than I do my husband. I hate going to public restrooms because I have no clue to whether it’s been cleaned in the last day, week, month, or year. What I hate even more, is when I walk into a stall and see that some nut-job pee’d all over the seat. Disgusting. I thought that only little boys or men who have bad eyesight did that. What kind of woman pees all over a seat for crying out loud?! At least men raise the seat up before peeing all over the place.

I can’t squat anymore because I am too front heavy now. I can’t get up on the seat with my feet and squat because I’ll probably topple over and break my face. So what do I do? I have to wipe the damn thing, put layers upon layers of TP on the seat, and hope and pray that I don’t get any diseases. Then I spray antibacterial spray on TP and wipe my whole bum and wash my hands for 10 minutes. There are some real sicko’s out there.

Also, since I go to public restrooms more frequently now, I also notice that only SOME women properly wash their hands with soap and water. Most wash with just water for a few seconds….. like that is really gonna help get the pee and poo off of their hands. A few just look in the mirror and leave. So gross. Now I look people straight in the eye after shaking their hands and wonder, “Is this person one of thoooose?” yuck.
